Volunteer Karate & Fitness Instructor and Student
I started studying karate in 1999 when I was 36 years old.
I am now a 3rd Degree Black Belt.
Most Memorable Moment:
One of the most memorable moments for me was receiving my Shodan (1st degree black belt) by Renshi Guy. I also cherish the special friendships with my fellow Black Belt Candidates.
Most Influential Instructor:
I am grateful for Renshi Guy’s instruction because of his unmatched knowledge, skill and passion for the sport. Having said that, Sensei Krista was my initial inspiration as a woman in martial arts. I admire the power and confidence that she demonstrated.
Signature Karate Move:
I love hip throws.
Biggest Struggle While Studying Karate:
My biggest struggle was learning my first kata. After that, the sky was the limit.
My Biggest Accomplishment While Studying Karate:
My biggest accomplishment was competing in World’s Competition in Spain in 2011. I won a silver medal in point sparring and a bronze medal in kata. It was such a privilege being part of Team Canada and I felt so proud to be a student from Elite Martial Arts.
Why Did You Want to Study Karate?
My son was a student at the dojo initially and by watching some of the adult classes, I became interested in trying it out. I am so happy that I did.
Long Term Goals:
I want to continue to grow and be part of the development of others. I would also hope to compete soon.
